Institutionalising a Volunteer First Responder Service in Armenia (VolFiRe)

Project Duration: 01.12.2022-31.07.2026

Location: Kotayk, Lori, Armavir, Ararat, Shirak, Gegharkunik, Syunik, Vayoc Dzor, Tavush, Aragatsotn Regions

Project Purpose: To contribute to strengthening population protection systems in the regions of Armenia through volunteer capacity.

 

Project Description: From December, 2022 Armenian Red Cross Society partnering with Armenian Caritas, started implementing “Institutionalising a Volunteer First Responder Service in Armenia (VolFiRe)” project.

The Civil Protection system in Armenia is currently mainly based on professional responders from governmental institutions. They are to a large extent on-duty firefighters and other paid staff of the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES).

CapSLoc: Capacities for Sustained Locally-Led Development

The Goal of CapSLoc: Capacities for Sustained Locally-Led Development is to increase the capacity and resilience of Akhuryan consolidated community to lead its development.

ARMENIAN CARITAS CHILD PROTECTION AND SAFEGUARDING POLICY

The activity of all the bodies, institutions and services dealing with children should be based on the principle of the best interests of the child. It means that the organization should operate in accordance with three main sub principles, which are child protection from any kind of danger or risks, protection of children’s rights and the promotion of child development.

Child protection as a component of the principle of the best interests of the child is stipulated in the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. It states that every child has a right to such protection and care as is necessary for his or her well-being.

Consolidation of a transnational network of NGOs specializing on labor migration between Russia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan.

Number of Beneficiaries: The beneficiaries of the project are the Armenian citizens in Russia who have faced some migration related problems and need legal assistance.

  • 4158 trained and counseled migrants and their family members.
  • 3000 consultations and trainings by 49 regional center of the USS staff.
  • 24 024 beneficiaries of the media tours.
  • 500 activists in the communities
  • 2 600 awareness raising and referring actions via social media
  • 3000 consultations -assistance by hot line

Growing Healthy: balanced nutrition and improved development opportunities for children

Recognizing the importance of food security and healthy nutrition in the growth and development of pre-school age children Armenian Caritas implements Growing Healthy Project in three  kindergartens in Gyumri (“Lilit’’, ”Mush” development center, and “Erazank”). The Projects aims at improving food and nutrition security of children, enhancing capacities of preschool teaching staff and promoting parental involvement.

Goal: Balanced nutrition and improved development opportunities for 184 preschool aged children in Shirak Region.

Volodya, Rima, Anzhela, Nazeli, Mariam, Milena, Arianna, Never, David, Edvard – 6 girls, 4 boys: The eldest is 19 years old, the youngest is 1 year and 8 months old.  Despite the social difficulties and problems, the Karapetyans living in Akhuryan are not complaining: their 11th child will be born in a few months.

Trying to introduce the children one by one, the 39-year-old mother hurries to assure that no matter how difficult it is, one child is good but many children are better. Only the eldest of the children is an adult and is currently in military service.
