From June 8 to 12, 2026, a delegation of the Charity Commission of the German Catholic Bishops’ Conference paid an official visit to Armenia. The delegation was headed by Archbishop Stephan Burger of Freiburg, Chairman of the Commission. Among the delegates were Archbishop Herwig Gössl of Bamberg, Vice Chairman of the Commission; Auxiliary Bishop Dr. Christian Würtz of the Archdiocese of Freiburg; Eva Maria Welskop-Deffaa, President of Caritas Germany; as well as experts in social affairs, academics, and representatives of the Catholic Church in Germany and Caritas Germany. The purpose of the visit was to gain first-hand insight into the implementation and impact of programs carried out by Armenian Caritas with the financial support of the German Catholic Bishops’ Conference.

On May 21, 2026, the General Assembly of the “Armenian Caritas” Benevolent Non-Governmental Organization was held online. In accordance with the Code of Canons of the Eastern Churches and the legislation of the Republic of Armenia, the members of the Assembly elected Most Reverend Archbishop Gevorg Noradounguian, Ordinary of the Armenian Catholics in Armenia, Georgia, Russia, and Eastern Europe, as the new President of Armenian Caritas.
By virtue of this election, Most Reverend Archbishop Gevorg Noradounguian has lawfully assumed the presidency of “Armenian Caritas” and will henceforth direct the activities of the benevolent organization alongside his responsibilities as the Armenian Catholic Ordinary.
During her working visit to the Gegharkunik region on May 11, the Human Rights Defender Anahit Manasyan visited the “Little Prince” social day-care center operated by the “Armenian Caritas” benevolent NGO in Gavar. During the visit, the center’s coordinator, Sona Khachikyan, introduced the Defender to the history of the center’s activities, ongoing projects, as well as the daily lives and educational initiatives aimed at the development of the beneficiaries.
This was followed by a meeting with the children of the center and their parents, during which issues related to the protection of human rights,
