Recognizing the importance of food security and healthy nutrition in the growth and development of pre-school age children Armenian Caritas implements Growing Healthy Project in two kindergartens in Gyumri (“Lilit’’ and “Erazank”) and two preschool institutions in the villages of Ghazanchi and Sepasar. The Projects aims at improving food and nutrition security of children, enhancing capacities of preschool teaching staff and promoting parental involvement.
Goal: Balanced nutrition and improved development opportunities for 168 preschool aged children in Shirak Region.
By the end of the Project
- Conditions for food preparation and storage in all four kindergartens are improved,
- 168 children receive good quality food all year round as well as practical knowledge on healthy food, clean environment and personal safety issues,
- Practical learning opportunities on parenting(healthy meal and nutrition, positive parenting, safe and supportive families) are created for 155 families to promote their participation in preschool life,
- 44 kindergarten personnel are trained on nutrition and healthy food topics to incorporate that information in their teaching activities with children,
- 44 kindergarten personnel are trained on Protective behaviours to be able to communicate with children on personal safety issues as well.
