Improvement of Social Conditions of Single Mothers in Gyumri

Project duration: 10.01.16  –  01.05.16

Number of beneficiaries: 50

Location: Gyumri

Most single mothers in Gyumri live in a situation of extreme poverty and even daily food and access to health care is a major problem for them. Poverty and the life at or below the subsistence level are the main causes of poor health. The consequences of poverty are a greater personal health risk for single mothers for they have poor nutrition, little chance of accessing knowledge, and limited possibilities for health care. Accordingly, poor health in turn results in greater poverty.

Goal: Goal of the project was to prevent the possible landslides in the community of Vahagni by constructing water removal system.

Activities: The village of Vahagni had been constructed in 19th century not taking into consideration vulnerability of the location.

Location: NKR: Martakert

Goal: IInternally displaced population and conflict-affected households in Nagorno-Karabakh are able to live in dignity in areas of displacement.

Activities: Based on the humanitarian needs assessment conducted in May, 2016 in NKR and Armenia, Catholic Relief Services (CRS) availed an emergency funding for “AC” to address immediate needs of households affected by the escalation of the conflict.

Advocacy forum in Dilijan

“Armenian Caritas” Benevolent NGO organized an “Advocacy forum of the organizations dealing with children’s issues in the RA” in the city of Dilijan on February 21-22. The Forum aimed to bring together about 25 officials of the organizations implementing advocacy in the field of social protection of children in order to present and exchange the best practices in child rights protection processes. During the forum, the approaches of the UN Children’s Fund, World Vision Armenia, Child Protection Network, “Oxfam” Office in Armenia, OxYGen Fund, Maternal and Child Health Alliance and “Armenian Caritas” on advocacy implementation were presented by reports. Group presentations gave a chance to the participants to get acquainted with the approaches and organizational resources of “Save the Children International”

Goal: To contribute to the improvement of heating conditions and prevention of cold-driven diseases of socially vulnerable families in Gyumri, Vanadzor, Tashir and Gavar (519 children in 178 families).

A SMILE HIDDEN BEHIND HEALTH PROBLEMS

Varduhi was born in 1985 and grew in a family of craftsman. There were 2 children in their family – Varduhi and her sister. They both graduated the school with honors. Varduhi entered Gyumri Engineering College, programming department.

Then Varduhi started working at Gyumri school #21 and in a year she got married.

In 2007 Varduhi’s twins were born – Anna and Teresa. One of the twins Teresa had a hypoxia so was kept in special conditions for several days.
