Renovation of Lavatories of Hovuni village

Location: Hovuni village
Background:
Hovuni village is 13 km north-west from the provincial center Gyumri. The village is situated on the right bank of Akhuryan river. 1750m above sea level. The climate is mountainous, with cold and long winters (six months). The ancestors of Hovuni inhabitants emigrated from Basen village in Western Armenia. In Soviet times the population of the village was 1000, now it is 605.
Local level needs assessment in 13 communities

Number of Beneficiaries: It’s a Need Assessment, interviews with questionnaire. Beneficiaries can be considered 4 provinces (Shirak, Lori, Gegharkunik and Ararat). This is for the future projects.
Location: Shirak province – 6 villages, Lori province – 3 villages, Gegharkunik province – 3 villages and Ararat province.
Background: A needs assessment is a systematic process for determining and addressing needs, or “gaps” between current conditions and desired conditions or “wants”. The discrepancy between the current condition and wanted condition must be measured to appropriately identify the need.

Location: Lanjik village
Background: The building of «Secondary school of Lanjik» was built in 1987 and it began to function in 1990. The building is exemplary with 392 seats. The last time the school was renovated in 2006 with the state sponsorship, but after the renovation there are a lot of omissions and shortage of inventory. July 13 was a very memorable and heart-touching day for “Armenian Caritas.” It was a day when “Armenian Caritas” received Mr. Norbert Mathis and Mr. Martin Hagleitner Huber, the Head of Department of Caritas Austria to honor one of its most dedicated and devoted friends, a volunteer from Caritas Austria, Mr. Norbert Mathis whose decades-long friendship planted seeds of faith in all “Armenian Caritas” projects and beyond. As the Executive Director of “Armenian Caritas” Gagik Tarasyan mentioned “all these years have been symbolizing not only a response to the needs presented, but a heartfelt initiative to change the lives of people.” Mr.
Armine Nazaryan has been selected as our Volunteer of the Month for June, 2017! Armine has been volunteering in “Armenian Caritas” Day Care Center for the Elderly /Tashir since 2011. “I spend 4 hours of my day on volunteering with elderly people and keep on thinking about them even being out of the office. When I enter the office and see their smiles and expectant looks for cutting one’s hair, helping the other to bathe, I feel that they need my help and I can have my small input on easing their problems”.
She actively takes part in the events and works carried out in the center.

June 30 was a special day for “Armenian Caritas.” The initiating founder and Board Member of “AC” Mrs. Zevart Nadjarjan was awarded a Gold Medal of the RA Ministry of Diaspora.
To acknowledge the efforts and dedication of Mrs. Nadjarian, the RA MoD convened a ceremony in honor of Mr. and Mr. Nadjarian awarding also a prominent journalist Mr. Nadjarian whose contribution to the newly independent Armenian can hardly be overestimated. The MoD Minister Mrs. Hranush Hakobyan highly appreciated the contribution this family made during all these years and mentioned that “our country has been developed by genuine efforts and profound contribution of such people as Nadjarian family.”

Asya Bokhyan has been volunteering in “Armenian Caritas” National Home Care / Gavar project since 2010.
“Being a part of the society I have always wanted to help those who are in need. During my 8 years of volunteering I have understood that there are many elderly people having certain kind of needs which can be provided by the youngers.
While visiting our beneficiaries I see their smiling faces and at the same time wistful eyes. I live with their concerns,
