Innovation for Health

Project Duration: 01 July 2021-28 February 2022

Location: Republic of Armenia, Gegharkunik/Gavar, Shirak/Gyumri

Specific Objectives:

  1. To improve the health of vulnerable population groups through the provision of integrated care services
  2. To strengthen local health systems by increasing skills and knowledge of staff/volunteers/local stakeholders

Beneficiaries:

  • 60 vulnerable and socially isolated women and men
  • 20 Armenian Caritas staff members
  • 20 volunteers
  • 5 networking partners
  • 22 students of the nursing college

Goal:

Clean-up activities at Vardakar reservoir area

The water areas of Shirak region are polluted, in particular – the reservoirs. In the rural areas household waste is dumped into water channels reaching the reservoirs through water. Crops of the neighboring villages are irrigated with the polluted water.

Armenian Caritas volunteers and inhabitants of the nearby villages took the initiative to clean up the area of Vardakar reservoir. Large amounts of household waste and plastic waste were removed from the reservoir. Vardakar reservoir provides irrigation water to 7 villages of Artik region: Nor Kyanq, Vardakar, Horom, Hovtashen, Lusakert, Saratak and Hayrenyats. Waters from the highlands reach the reservoir through water channels passing through the villages.

Armenian Synod elects new Catholicos-Patriarch of Cilicia

The Synod of the Armenian Catholic Church, meeting this week in Rome, has elected Raphaël Bedros XXI Minassian as the 21st Catholicos-Patriarch.

A ringing of bells in the patriarchal convent of Bzommar, Lebanon, announced the election of the Catholicos-Patriarch of Cilicia of Armenian Catholics: His Beatitude Raphaël François Minassian.

He had served until now as the titular archbishop of Caesarea of Cappadocia of the Armenians and Ordinary for the Armenian Catholic faithful of Eastern Europe. His Beatitude Raphaël Bedros XXI is the President of Armenian Caritas.

Accompanying and Building Capacities in EU Aid Volunteers(ABC-EUAV)

Project Duration: December, 2019 – May, 2022

Goal: The goal of the Project is to strengthen the organizational and technical capacities in volunteer management, disaster risk reduction (DRR) and organizational emergency preparedness. As a result, stronger Caritas organizations in Eastern and South Eastern Europe will be able to actively support the strengthening of capacities and resilience of vulnerable or disaster-affected communities in their respective countries.
