41_1Food equal to 2000 Euro and cloths anticipated for 50 families was donated during the “Zero Poverty” campaign, which was undertaken by European Caritas in 2010. The actions within the campaign were carried out by Armenian Caritas Youth Corps. Due to ACYC 1002 Armenians signed the petition and joined the fight against poverty.

The activities devoted to the “Zero poverty” campaign in Armenia were launched in May 21 by the “Candle lighting for solidarity” action. The organized candle lighting, which took place in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor and Gavar simultaneously, calls everybody to assist those in need, in order not to sentence them to everlasting suffering of being deprived of education, health care, welfare life, job and other needs.

The next action was the benevolent screening of the movie “Barefoot” in “Hoktember” Cinema, in Gyumri. The film once again reminded us that people in need, irrespective of their social state, has the right to love and be loved, and to receive careful and assisting attitude. During the film screening people donated food equal to 150.000 AMD and 10.000 AMD.

41_2The success of this action became a stimulus for caring it out in other cities too. The movie has been successfully screened in Vanadzor, Tashir and Gavar.

Screening hold in these four cities raised food equal to about 1000 Euro.

Within the scope of “Zero Poverty” campaign another successful initiative became a photo exhibition of social images taken at homes of “Home Care” project beneficiaries called “Home Care Zero Poverty Tool”.

The food drive was carried out also during Christmas masquerade initiated by ACYC and aimed at making presents for children from disadvantaged families.

During such actions people used to ask what is the goal of “Zero Poverty” campaign taking into account the fact that everybody is well aware of the existence of poverty among people.

Answering we can surely say that the campaign is not only about awareness, but also increase of participation and solidarity with those who are in need. The vivid example of it is that “Inecobank” LTD joined our campaign and donated food parcels for 20 families living in social difficult conditions. The stuff of the bank brunch in Gyumri with the director Eduard Hakobyan, as well as the school N3 lead by Anahit Khachatryan also donated clothes for marginalized and deprived families.

The words become useless, if you do not try to prove the veracity of these words by your actions. Members of ACYC were able to arouse many people’s desire to help those in need and they will continue to decrease poverty through numerous fundraising actions.
