The older a person becomes the more his health turns into an asset to be taken care of. Thus special treatment, care and medications are required and to be provided by geriatricians (aged care specialists), which lack in Armenia after the collapse of the Soviet Union. As a continuation of a free-of-charge 3-day training in the summer of 2016 for the AC nurses and for the Armenian care institutions and respective NGOs conducted by Victoria Kaprielian, MD, FAAFP Associate Dean for Faculty Development and Medical Education of Campbell University and her team, the June of 2017 became one more milestone in the development of geriatrics for “Armenian Caritas” Home Care project, as the esteemed team arrived to continue the training. For Armenia nurses Dr. Kaprielian’s training is a unique opportunity as receiving a training from a person who has worked extensively in multiple levels of medical education, designed and implemented multiple innovative courses is special and life-changing for nurses and their patients. Dr. Paolini Chair of Family Medicine at CUSOM Dr. Paolini is on the Christian Medical and Dental Associations Board of Trustees and serves on the CMDA Human Trafficking Commission. We hope she can come to “Armenian Caritas” to advise re the trafficking issues as well.
Dr. Kaprielian had asked about the preferences of the training participants beforehand and the training was the logical continuation of the one in the last year.
Doctor Viki and Charlot Paolini had prepared appropriate presentations on the topics of High Blood Pressure, Case Discussions and a ABI – Blood Pressure Indexes.
Besides they had prepared PP Presentations on
- Peripheral arterial disease
- Coronary Artery Disease
- Elderly Blood Pressure
- Stroke.
There were 25 participant nurses from all “Armenian Caritas” appropriate projects, representatives of local Nursing College, Vanadzor Elderly Home. Four medical students coming from Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine were participating the training session, bringing a special flavor to the training.
The training was very beneficial and useful.
