The project is funded by the European Union, Austrian Development Agency, Caritas Austria and implemented by the Armenian Caritas BNGO
20.09.2018
1. Background
Armenian Caritas BNGO has long-standing support from Caritas Austria/Diocese of Feldkirch in various fields of social and economic development. Since the beginning of this partnership, both organisations have placed a particular focus on providing services for people with disabilities and promoting their inclusion in Armenian society.
Together, these organizations established the Emili Aregak Centre, which provides services for people with disabilities living in Gyumri. The Centre was founded in 2008 with a primary focus of developing children’s physical and mental abilities in order to improve their social and life skills and prepare them to lead independent lives.
In September 2018, Caritas opened the first inclusive and barrier-free bakery and coffee shop in Gyumri, which will be organised and managed as a social enterprise. Aregak Bakery & Cafe will be an important means for the Emili Aregak Center to fulfil its primary mission: the inclusion of people with disabilities (PWD) in Armenian society. The social goals of this action will demonstrate that PWD are able to work in the private sector, thus changing perceptions and promoting social change.
