11Meeting- seminars are organized in “Armenian Caritas” “Emili Aregak” social center hall for the Gyumri staff of “Armenian Caritas” and conducted by Fr. Joseph Galstyan with the blessing of the President of “Armenian Caritas” His Excellency Raphael Archbishop Minassian. The theme of the meetings is the social theology of the Catholic or Universal Church which is the foundation of the mission of both Caritas Internationalis and “Armenian Caritas”.

During the meetings the priest speaks on Caritas identity, its spiritual character, goals of activities and the Catholic Church doctrine which is the base of Caritas’ work around the globe. Various issues are discussed that refer to practical work and the theology. Today was a regular meeting with interesting and thought-provoking discussions.

In Christian theology the Latin word “caritas” is interpreted as a “friendship for the sake of God,” which “unites us- humans with God. Charity is a theological virtue by which we love God with all our heart and our neighbor as ourselves”.

Accordingly, “Armenian Caritas” tries to organize humanitarian support and other assistances, as well as charitable activities for the people and groups in society who live in difficult conditions without any religious, national or racial discrimination. Moreover, “Armenian Caritas” sees itself as a major force actively implementing democratic and developing changes in Armenia.

This work is not only an employment for “Armenian Caritas” employees, but a mission based on Christian values. Atheistic legacy of Soviet period has left its mark, leaving some gaps in knowledge of the Bible. These gaps, however, are filled with conscience and intelligence.

Each meeting provides an opportunity for new reflection, arming “Armenian Caritas” office staff and project employees with new knowledge, love for God and a renewed spirit.
