The initiative was called to life by the “Path of hope, valley of hope” NGO within the “Revival of traditional handicraft in rural community” project, which was financed by Armenian Caritas “Aramazd” social-educational development project through the community development grant funding.

DSC02642On May 13 an exhibition of Armenian traditional handicraft was launched at the museum of the Gyumri National Architecture and Urban Life. The initiative was called to life by the “Path of hope, valley of hope” NGO within the “Revival of traditional handicraft in rural community” project, which was financed by Armenian Caritas “Aramazd” social-educational development project through the community development grant funding.
The main aim of the program is to organize embroidery and lace trainings for 24 women living in bordering community Meghrashat. The vivid evidence of the programs successful results were handicrafts presented in the exhibition.
The president of the “Path of hope, valley of hope” NGO Alice Sahakyan speaking about the programs successful results mentioned the great investment of the trainer Sussana Vardanyan. Nowadays there is a lack of good embroidery and lace specialists who are ready to transfer their knowledge and abilities patiently.
Zara Aghanyan manager of «Aramazd» social educational development program mentioned in her speech that there were all preconditions for the DSC02633programs good results as the program is being implemented in an active community of Meghrashat, by a professional specialist and promotes traditional culture.
“We greatly appreciate every investment in our community and we are ready to cooperate with any organization which acts for benefit of our people” – assures community head of Meghrashat Vahram Saghatelyan.
The ceremony began with welcome speech of Shirak region’s governor Feliks Tsolakyan. Mr. Tsolakyan speaking about the importance of the event expressed his gratitude to Armenian Caritas for promoting the culture preservation.
DSC02569Russian Consul in Gyumri Vasiliy Korchmar expressed his admiration telling that the works awakened pleasant memories. He said that he had seen various embroidered tablecloths and napkins in his grandmother’s wardrobe; they used these tablecloths and napkins only on holidays. He also said that it is very appreciable and commendable Armenians makes efforts to preserve the craft.
Shirak region’s Deputy Governor Seyran Petrosyan, Armenian Caritas Deputy Director Gagik Tarasyan, Adviser of Shirak region’s Governor Hasmik Kirakosyan, Priest of Armenian Catholic Church Don Grrigor Mkrtchyan, Director of Gyumri museum of national architecture and urban life Sona Harutyunyan and other honorable guests were present at the exhibition as well.
The authors of the all works were given presents by Armenian Caritas. The exhibition will last three days from May 23 to 26.
