The official presentation of the “Community Needs Assessment” research initiated by “Armenian Caritas” was hold on March 14. The research was conducted by “LorE Rescue Team of Stepanavan” NGO. NGO president Armen Arakelyan presented “Local Level Disaster Risk Management” methodology and tools, through which the needs assessment was conducted in 13 rural communities. The research was conducted in 6 communities of Shirak Province (Arapi, Jajur, Jrapi, Voskehask, Vahramaberd, Shirak), in 3 communities of Lori Province (Debed, Shirakamut, Urut), in 3 communities of Gegharkunik Province (Lchap, Gegharkunik, Zovaber) and in Pokr Vedi community of in Ararat Province.
A development project of Shirak Province six communities was submitted to Renovabis charitable organization based on the survey results according to the priority. Within the next 3 years internal irrigation networks of the communities will be repaired, farming households will take part in trainings on the effectiveness of the application of new technologies in agriculture. Experimental –demonstration field will be created in each community within the framework of the project for the introduction of new crops and exchange of experience.
