Background: Gyumri State Sports College of Olympic Reserve’s activities.

  • The College was established in 1986 by order of the USSR Ministry of Enlightenment and the USSR Sports Committee of July 25/29 no. 168/496 and functioned as a sports-specialized boarding school.
  • In 1989, by order of the USSR Sports Committee, it was renamed the “College of Olympic Reserve” State Non-Commercial Organization (SNCO)
  • In 2003 – the “Gyumri State Sports School of Olympic Reserve” State Non-Commercial Organization (SNCO).
  • In 2005 – the “Gyumri State Sports College of Olympic Reserve”
  • The college is licensed pursuant to the paragraph 2 of Article 8 of the RA law “n licensing” and was granted the right to carry out the existing training activities:
  1. General education for a period of 4 years (with enrollment limit of 150 seats)
  2. Secondary (full) education for a period of 2 years (with enrollment limit of 130 seats)
  3. Secondary vocational education for a period of 2 years and 10 months, 0307 specialty “Physical Culture and Sport” with qualifications of sports coach and physical education teacher (with enrollment limit of 35 seats).
  • The college carries out sports activities: 2 training sessions in a day in 8 sports.

The sport achievements for 1986-2018:

  • It won medals 218 (in different age groups) at the Olympic Games and World and European Championships (1-3 places)
  • 96 masters of sports
  • 32 masters of sports of international class
  • 18 honored coaches of RA
  • In 1996-2008, 23 graduated students participated in 4 Olympic Games: three of whom won 3 medals in Athens (Ara Abrahamyan from Sweden (2nd place); Artyom Kyureghyan from Greece (3nd place); Mkhitar Manukyan from Kazakhstan (3nd place)); and 3 medals in Pekin (Tigran Martirosyan (3nd place); Ara Khachatryan (3nd place), Davtyan Hovhannes (3nd place).
  • 2009 was the best year for the college. Weightlifter Tigran Martirosyan won the gold medal, Ara Khachatryan silver medal at the European Weightlifting Championship. Aghvan Melikyan took the 2nd place in the Youth Championship. Judo athletes Hovhannes Davtyan became the 3rd prize winner of the World Championship (it was the first in judo history of Armeina), Artyom Baghdasaryan won European Youth Championship, Hambardzum Tonoyan and Arthur Srapyan became prize winners in World Student Games. Armenian wrestler Alexan Mikaelyan became the 3rd prize winner of the World Youth Championship.
  • In 2010, Tigran Martirosyan became a two-time European Champion and the winner of the World Championship in Turkey. Ara Khachatryan became the 2nd prize winner at European Championship and Champion in World Powerlifting Championship.
  • Greco-Roman wrestler Alexan Mikaelyan again became the 3rd place winner at World Junior Championship. Freestyle wrestler Gor Barseghyan became the 3rd prize winner at European Youth Championship.
  • Weightlifter Gor Minasyan became the 2nd prize winner at Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. Grigor Mkhitaryan became winner of World Sambo Championship.
  • The college had 1704 graduates in 1986-2018, 320 of them have secondary vocational education. 116 graduates continued their education at the University. After the earthquake in 1988, the college continued its work (education and sport training) in shelters. Since 2003, the educational process has been continued in a two-story building constructed by the Social Investment Fund. Wooden halls will be replaced by stone halls due to the state budget.
  • Over the last 8 years, the college has been recognized as the best sport organization in Shirak province and was the best in the Republic of Armenia due to the number of achieved medals during the last three years in different age groups of European and the World Championships, as well as Olympic Games.

Goal:   Strengthening of Armenian families and raising of healthy generation.

Objectives:

– Raising awareness on the subject of stable families and maintenance of family value

– Raising responsibility towards health care and raising of healthy generation, thus struggling with infant mortality;

Activities:

  • To provide 50 Judo Tatami Mats
  • To provide food commodities to the most vulnerable sportsmen
